Spring 2022: Week Two One Room Challenge: Primary Bathroom
Yeah…yeah…it’s week two of the One Room Challenge and I’m technically on week one. Oops!
Here we go! In the past we did multiple rooms for the ‘one’ room challenge, because we don’t read directions so well, but this time we are “only” doing one room to make it a bit easier. Definition of ‘easier’ remains to be seen, as we also may be renovating a whole house at the same time.
Without Further Ado…the Before Pics.
And because we all enjoy a good laugh, I’ve included a picture of the primary bedroom in all of it’s 1984 wallpapered glory. But as someone who is currently wearing a pair of high waisted stonewashed 1980’s mom jeans, I’m going to laugh a little quieter.
Rocks and glass houses and all of that.
This was a tricky one to figure out because the closet was a weird, not super usable size…so we decided we’d blow out some walls and change the whole footprint of the bathroom. Originally I was playing around with walking through the bathroom to closet or vice-versa floorplan and I didn’t like it all.
Finally, I decided to push back the end wall 3 feet so it lined up with the wall on side of stairway, and then do a long skinny bathroom and closet that each have their own separate entry doors.
Sometimes I amaze myself at my own ingenuity…(my humbleness has yet to amaze anyone, in case you wondered).
And now for the fun part…the design asthetic. I originally had planned a very budget bathroom with terracotta floors, and budget tile. My husband didn’t like it because he doesn’t like terracotta…so I re-did the WHOLE design…with maybe a little less budget finishes. NOT. MY. FAULT. (and I still snuck the terracotta floors into the half bath…)
He had wanted a mostly white, neutral bathroom. So this is my ‘mostly white’ neutral bathroom. It’s similar to me doing 3 rooms for the ‘one’ room challenge. Words and definitions are hard, what can I say?
He also really wanted marble…which I wasn’t a fan of until I found that marble terrazo fluted tile. There’s a reason we’re only doing that on one wall folks…
From this view above, it really does look pretty neutral…so I’m saying I gave the client what he wanted. If you removed those blue mirrors (which I won’t), it’d almost be like a minimalists dream.
I’ll go into detail in all of the products and sources and partners in a following post! But for now, let me know what you think of the plans!
As always- be sure to check out the rest of the guest participants of the One Room Challenge. Thank you to Linda Weinstein and Apartment Therapy for hosting!
